Pamela Colman Smith s beloved tarot artwork, created in 1909 under the direction of Arthur E. Waite, is now presented in a borderless format for a more immersive reading experience. This 84-card deck includes four extra cards with reproduction samples of Pixie s non-tarot artwork, including two watercolor paintings Catch Me and Duet ; the Lovers illustration from the play Deirdre; and an illustration from the sheet music for Christmas Carol. The deck comes with an instruction booklet.

Smith-Waite Tarot Deck Borderless

What an exciting and fresh approach to the traditional tarot! I am so happy to see U.S. Games is paying attention to the borderless approach. There’s an ever growing interest in cards without distracting borders-and this one is PERFECT.

The images are “aged” and I like the overall look and feel. The card stock is sturdy but not too stiff. There’s a lwb included which supplies card definitions. I can totally recommend this deck to all who want to learn to read tarot…in fact, I’m more excited about this than I thought I would be. There’s something about a deck with no borders that makes each reading seem to flow better-it probably has to do with no distraction for the eyes. There are four cards included that are Pamela Colman Smith art. Also included is a place card that tells you some information about each of those images. This is a nice touch and a wonderful way to honor our most famous of tarot illustrators. I will be interested in seeing how readers all over the world will use these four cards…will they put them under glass as collections or will they incorporate them into readings?…I can’t wait to find out.

The structure of the deck is exactly the same as the original deck with borders. The images appear a bit larger – I honestly keep picking up a card and staring at it because it’s so familiar…yet so much clearer than what we’re used to seeing.

Well done US Games!
